About UpeoMaps
UpeoMaps is a growing catalogue of interactive maps by Decimal Locations, a mapping and location-data company based in Nairobi, Kenya. Each map takes one field, starting with Kenya, and turns its location data into something you can open, explore and understand.
What UpeoMaps is
UpeoMaps turns location data into interactive maps that anyone can explore. Each map focuses on a single field and opens full screen, so you can zoom, pan and tap your way through the data on a computer, a tablet or a phone, in a light or a dark theme.
We start with Kenya. Our first map, Hazina, charts the country’s commercial banks with their branches and ATMs, so you can see who is where and how the banking network reaches each county. Anga Zetu, a map of Kenya’s local air travel, is in preparation, and more fields will follow.
How it works
-
One field at a time
Every map covers a single field, so it can go deep instead of wide, with its own data and its own tools.
-
Explore the map
Zoom, pan and tap any point to see its details. The summary numbers in the corner change to match whatever is on the map.
-
Filter and compare
Panels let you narrow the map to one bank, compare two banks side by side, see what is open at a given hour, or look at one county at a time.
-
Find what is near you
Share your location and choose a distance of up to 20 km to see nearby branches, from all banks or just one. It works inside Kenya, and your location stays in your browser.
-
Read and take away
Views and Insights add short written takes and data-backed facts, and Static Maps offers ready-made maps to view and open full size.
-
Sources you can check
Each map has a Map Info window with its data sources, key definitions, FAQs and a change log, so you can see where the numbers come from.
